Princess Blue

This is a warm-up I did this morning just to get back into the groove of drawing. If you don’t know me, I’m a big fan of princesses kicking butt. It’s my inner feminist manifesting in the form of radically ruthless royal babes.

I actually kind of like this piece. There’s a lot of mark-making going on that I’d like to refine, but I’m thinking of doing this as a series of princesses based around different colors and genres. This particular princess, Princess Blue, is based on the sort of “space adventure-meets-steam punk” genre, a la Firefly.

If you have any thoughts regarding either the series as a concept or this piece specifically I’d love to hear ’em!

This is how they did in the good ol’ days.

So, I was semi-commissioned to do a personalized Twitter background image for someone I know. I won’t go into the gory details of payment because nobody gives a rat’s behind about that but me, but hey I have a pretty sweet preview for you!

I’ll probably add some textures over top of this and maybe mess with the shading a bit, but all and all this is pretty close to the finished product, assuming said client doesn’t ask for any changes.

Bucket List Comics: The Sword

So, my teacher has this thing called a “bucket list,” not to be confused with the list of stuff you want to do before you die. He calls it that because apparently this list was literally housed in a bucket for awhile.

Anyway, the point is that everyone is assigned a different random object, in my case swords, and has to research them and do a little mini-presentation in class on the history, how they work, different types, whatever, etc.

This is the introduction to my presentation. A small comic informing my classmates/viewers about the very, very basic history of the sword.

Very basic. I did research, but there are so many different kinds of swords with such rich and interesting histories that I was hard pressed to whittle the information down to fit into an acceptable time limit.

Anyway, enjoy the comic! (You may have to click on it and view it in another window to read it…)

dogs & vampires – it’s the future of entertainment

So, I’m working on a comic for my environments, props and structures class that is going to be finished and posted on here sometime within the next two hours or so, but every once in awhile I need to step away from what I’m drawing and take a break.

These sketches are the result of those breaks. The first, SoCal Dog, was done just with a mouse, because I can.

That one took me like, I don’t know, maybe five minutes. Maybe. Probably closer to two.

This next one is a “painting” or whatever of Marceline the Vampire Queen from Adventure Time. If you haven’t seen Adventure Time, I’m telling you right now that your life is less awesome for it. Go, watch. I’ll wait.

Anyway, I love Marceline, and the episode I watched most recently she had part of her head shaved. I love ladies with shaved heads so I couldn’t resist paying her a little bit of respect and doing a doodle of her. This is probably more a color study than a painting. Took about fifteen-twenty minutes.

Enjoy! Comic to come later!

Tattoo commission progress!

Hello hello! Just a quick update to show you the initial sketch and the first color rough for the hibiscus tattoo I’m design for a commissioner. :}

This one is slightly different than I generally work in that I’m doing everything digitally. I generally prefer to start with a physical sketch, but I figured it was worth a shot to just try and get everything done without using any paper at all this time around. I’m eco-friendly!

Here is the initial under drawing:

Which I then colored over! For this piece, I was working on about eleven different layers in Photoshop. Altogether, it’s one of my smaller pieces as far as layers are concerned.

Here is the first color rough:

There’s some stuff about it I’d like to clean and tighten but I wanted to get my client’s opinion on colors first. Hope it’s well received!

A preview of coming attractions.

Hey all, just wanted to make a list of stuff to look for from me over the next few weeks!

x Personal commission – tattoo design.
x Personal commission – custom Twitter background.
x Classwork – paper sculpture of Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robot.
x Classwork – various mini-posts about random topics.
x Classwork – environment and prop design sketches.

Girls! (That’s all I really want is girls!)

Hey guys!

I know I’ve been relatively inactive lately, but I blame that on the fact that my laptop is pretty much on the outs and is generally unusable at this point in time combined with all of the SCAD buildings be closed. Although I frequently update this blog from my phone I didn’t feel like writing five different posts for five different sketches so I just thought I’d wait until I could scan everything and splice it together.

That being said, have some girls!

I’m not gonna lie, you guys, girls are like, my favorite thing to draw. Generally because they’re easier for me to draw than boys since I have myself as a model. /narcissism

I sneaked some Avatar: the Last Airbender fanart in at the bottom there, as is wont to happen when you watch the whole series from beginning to end over the course of two days.

And, because the Beastie Boys say it better than I ever could, here you go.
